Dear Fellow members,
President’s Message
Winter ‘10
Well the snow
finally hit this 1st week of December and it was
gone in a few hours. The Moose River primitive vous
has another year under its belt thanks to Pam Wenck,
Maria n’ Joe Heckle and (Tim Welch with water), wood
and all those who helped with the unnoticed duties.
Our joint deer
season proposal has generated some discussion; most
of it has been around the crossbow issue and how
Gary Scolla and I left all kinds of things out of
the proposal. According to the Eric County
Federation’s meeting minutes the DEC’s Patricia
Riexinger told them our proposal didn’t have much
support.
Trust me Gary and I
did not leave or forget anything out of our
proposal. If it was not listed it was because we
either had no opinion on it, because it was not
legal yet or did not effect our proposal one way or
the other. As usual it is easier for people to nit
pick after you put your name on the dotted line than
it is to be the originator of a project.
I’ve watched over
the years as proposals and resolutions never make it
much past the last meeting. This time what was
readily noticeable were all the published opinions
injected into the proposal and not one of those
people contacted me before or after they “assumed”
what they did, which for the most part was
discussing other states regulations and the
lack of support for
the crossbow that has been beaten around since 1991.
However, what made
this proposal different is two people put their
names on it & so far I’ve seen 3 different proposals
either adding to ours or taking a different
direction. In the end no matter what others are
saying people woke up and at least discussed options
for their regions. Then again as Tom Henley has told
me many times, “never give anyone the incentive to
out do you”, oops on me.
We need a Chairman &
general help to work the Primitive Biathlon ASAP. If
I do not have people come forward by Jan 15th the
event will be cancelled.
Our next Board
meeting will be at the Elbridge Rod & Gun Club
during their Winter Rendezvous Feb. 13-14 Elbridge.
Time appx. Noon Sunday 14th if you can not make the
meeting please forward me by email or letter any
news you have. The main topic will set our shoots
dates for the year. This year we will have a list of
Directors & Officers positions
open listed in the
spring GT with instructions on what a person has to
do to run for office.
Eric has requested
information for the GT and outside of a few shoot
dates he’s received nothing. I instructed Eric to
cut the pages down to 12 or 8 if he did not have
enough to print. Eric and I are not going to beg for
information, nor do I expect Eric to spend an
inordinate amount of time looking for information to
help your association out.
As a closing topic I
want you all to read this article below from Senator
Gillibrand and when you go to the polls next
election remember it. This is what is known as a
“Straw Purchase” and is already against the law.
Stay safe & See you
on the firing line.

Gillibrand, McCarthy
announce anti-gun bill
By Associated Press
November 24, 2009,
3:12PM
NEW YORK
-- New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Rep. Carolyn
McCarthy are introducing a bill to crackdown on
illegal gun trafficking.
They said Tuesday
the bill would make it a crime to traffic in
firearms and would also go after middlemen who buy a
gun for someone else so that person can evade
background checks. The bill
would provide
funding for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco
and Firearms to hire 1,500 agents and investigators.
Gillibrand said the
measures outlined in the bill would cost $370
million over five years. Mayor Michael Bloomberg and
Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly joined the two
Democratic lawmakers at a news conference announcing
the bill at John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Manhattan.
Kelly said the bill
would be "truly life-saving."
Update Jan. 16
The Primitive
Biathlon has been cancelled~
As of the publishing
of the Jan GT I have been informed that the Ringling
Brother Circus has won judgment against the API,
Animal Protection Institute. This was a long drawn
out affair lasting 10 years. It cost taxpayers
hundreds of thousands of dollars if not millions for
this to be argued. In the end the Judge found the
Circus was not in violation of any of the endangered
species act regulations. I’ll post the courts
opinion in a link for you to read.
We had
a very successful turn out for the January
legislative day in January. The NYSCC legislative
day is planned for April 13th so take a
day off work and gather up your friends hop a bus
and make the trip.
Special thanks for
Bob Patterson and the
Coxsackie gang for making the trip.
According to
SCOPE’S President Ken Mathison a handful of bills
have made it to the 3rd reading, so be
vigilant and call your reps.
