Welcome
to the New York State Muzzle-Loaders Association's web
site.
Here you will find information you may need on the sport
of muzzle-loading, primitive camping, and the NYSMLA.Org
What is
the New York State Muzzle-Loaders Association all about?
Since
the 1970’s the New York State Muzzle-loaders Association
has been "dedicated to the continuing support of black
powder events, people, and legislation." Overall we have
over 40 affiliated clubs throughout New York State.
The NYSMLA.Org has 5
major events throughout each year. The first event being
the "Primitive Biathlon”, this is usually held sometime
in February or March, for more information click on this
"Primitive Biathlon" link.
The second event on the
schedule is our "Spring Family Fun Shoot & Camp Out."
This weekend is packed with shooting, great people, and
just plain fun. This is usually on a weekend in May; you
can move in Friday night, vendors are welcome and
shooting starts Saturday Morning.
The third major event
we hold every year is for the more competitive shooter.
It's the "Trophy Shoot”; for the NY State championship
title. Usually held in the last weekend in July or first
weekend in August, this shoot is not any less fun
because of its more competitive nature, we’ll just
harass you a little more that’s all.
Next we come to the
"Fall Family Fun Shoot & Camp Out." It's usually held on
Labor Day Weekend, and doubles as our annual meeting and
election of officers. Meeting site was located for 30
years at our founding site, Town of Ohio Recreation
Park NYSMLA.Org decided for 2008 to hold the Labor Day
shoot at the park again this year.
Bring a period tent,
modern tent, or Camper/RV. The Town of Ohio offers
limited electric hookups for those of you who bring tin
teepees. "Primitive Camps" are encouraged to set up.
Folks can dress in period, or modern dress. Recreation
Field and Range are located on Nellis Road, just off of
New York State Route 8. It's approximately 7 miles north
of Cold Brook, NY in the beautiful Adirondack Foothills.
Finally NYSMLA.Org’s
annual "Primitive Rendezvous & Hunt." The Rendezvous,
held in October, stretches out for a full week! This is
a 100% primitive experience that you will never forget.
Located on the Moose river Plains WMA, just outside the
Town of Inlet and 7 miles off the blacktop creates as
close to a primitive Ronny as you can get.
NYSMLA.Org offers
individual, family & affiliated club memberships.
All of our matches you
can move in Friday, and camp out the weekend, with some
camping being free or very low fees.
The NYSMLA.Org could use
you as a member but; you do not need to be a member to
participate in our shoots.
We are affiliated with
the National Muzzle Loaders Rifle assn.; New York’s
Shooters Committee on Political Education, SCOPEny.Org
and we have a representative vote on the NY State
Conservation Council’s board.
Come on out bring the
whole family, spectators & everyone is invited to attend
and enjoy a weekend of camping, shooting and great
friends and most of all, FUN!
